Keep the first date conversation flowing freely

The initial first date conversation can be the most awkward to figure out, yet could be the moment to really set a great first impression on your prospective partner. It is a nervous time for both of you and you will be trying your best to make a good first impression. If you are not confident around people you’ve just met, keeping the conversation flowing can feel a bit more of a challenge. People sometimes clam up when they become nervous and can also be a little less sure of themselves, the fear of saying something stupid may lead the person to believe that saying nothing at all is better.

The person sitting across from you needs to feel there is chemistry between you both instead of thinking of the quickest way of ending the date. The goal for the first date is to get a second, and that will only happen if a spark ignites over the glasses of champagne. Wouldn’t it be nice to avoid the awkward silence and get the conversation flowing?

First Date Conversation – Alcohol or no alcohol?

In moderation. Neither you or your date have to drink each other under the table. Enjoy a glass of your favourite tipple and allow it to help you relax. Drinking too much on your first date can lead you to say or do something that will get your date asking for the bill before you’ve finished your main course. With a little alcohol and a lovely quiet and unthreatening atmosphere like a romantic restaurant with a candle on every table you have the ingredients for a lovely evening. If you want to avoid the first date awkward silences then a little alcohol can work wonders for loosening the tongue. Just remember to add a glass of water to the drinks as well.

Ask Questions

Learn to ask the right questions. Find out what hobbies they have, maybe what they do for a living and what they like doing to relax. This way you will find out more about them and will give you some topics to try on your second date where the conversation will flow more naturally.

Make sure you look interested in what you date is saying when they answer your questions. Do not yawn, stretch, check your phone or allow you eye to wonder over to another diner. Most importantly never look bored! When your date answers a question follow it up with another or follow with a little titbit of your own. Remember that your questions will lead to your date asking the same in return so make sure that you ask questions you are comfortable answering. By asking the questions first, you have a little more control of the conversations path enabling you to use it in your favour.

So when you are next out on a date and you find the conversation is dwindling, use these two handy dating tips and you are sure to make the conversation a success.
