Dating can be such an exciting time. The anticipation of a potential partner, new clothes new hair cut, etc. While many, many dates go without a hitch and lead to that all important second date, it’s a given that some dates lead a little further than just a kiss. That decision is entirely up to you, however the safety described in this article referrers to keeping safe whilst meeting someone you don’t know. The world has changed and so must our dating habits. We no longer live in a world where we are completely safe when venturing out on our own especially when you are going on that exciting first date. Here are some ideas on how to stay safe and happy when dating.
Safety in numbers is something that can be fun as well as safe. Your friends do not actually have to be on the date with you or even in the same restaurant, but the knowledge that they will be close by can aid you in relaxing and enjoying the company of the person you are meeting.
The Look Outs
If you have arranged to see your date in a bar and have either discussed what you will be wearing or have a picture. Have your friends check your date out first, then follow shortly after remembering you are there to see your date and not your them. The benefit of having a people to watch over you is they can watch your date when you make a trip to the bathroom. Maybe one could approach them and flirt a little and see how they react. A little sneaky perhaps, but if you are a little nervous this could really help.
Your friends will also be there in case you need a little help if the date turns sour. A pre arranged signal can conjure up your small army to rescue you, using the well known “hi, fancy seeing you here”. This will work well if you have a friends who are a couple, it would look a little suspect your same sex friends on a night out without you. It’s more believable if a couple shows up, they can either stay with you or ask when you are leaving as they can give you a lift home. Whatever you come up with, your friends can get you out of any situation.
The Back Up
Ok so dates do not always go according to plan. Maybe the person you are with makes staying awake a challenge or their personality is just a little too much and worst case scenario they are pushing a little too much for the date to go further than you intended. Whatever may make you want to end the date early have your friends there to pick the rest of the date up.
If you are in a restaurant decline dessert which will shorten the meal and if your date has no intention of making a move you could always ask for the bill. Last resort, make up an excuse (keep it as original as possible) or just tell them the truth. Can’t hurt can it. Once your date leaves you can catch up with your friends and either discuss the evening or enjoy yourself with better company. Obviously if your date turns out to be amazing then you are free to elongate the evening as much as you can and afterwards your friends can take you home.
They are always there for you
If you have friends that are willing to do this for you then use them. They can have just as good a time as you and wouldn’t you do the same for them if you asked. Dating does not have to be a chore, you can make it as fun as you want. Eventually you may not need your friends there, or back up plans. The more experience you have dating the easier it will get and the more confidence you will gain. Just remember it doesn’t hurt to keep yourself safe.
