1. You can’t be yourself
Most people have friends and family who will look out for them in all situations and will give them indications if they are dating the wrong person. It is not a good thing when they mention the changes the see in you and they are not happy. If you find you are changing the way you act and are watching what you say because your partner is critical about the way you are and if you have been dating for a few months and you still feel like you can’t completely relax around that person it is definitely time to call it a day. Why should you have to change who you are to suit someone else? If that person doesn’t love you for being you then is it really worth being in that situation. It may be a sign of what is to come in the future.
2. Are You Unhappy?
We know that our partners are not solely responsible for our happiness. They should be responsible for making our day better when they’re around. People who are in the right relationship should feel happier all round and catch themselves smiling when thinking about their date. Checking your phone for texts, your heart skipping a beat when you know they’re going to call and counting the minutes till you get to to see them is all part of a relationship where you want to be with the other person. Feeling unhappy the majority of the time, particularly when with your partner, is definitely a sign you may not be with the right person.
3. They Exhaust You
Does your partner always have a negative view on life? If the person you are dating always seems to have something to complain about whether it be work, family, friends or someone they passed on the street, these types of conversations can seep away your energy leaving you exhausted rather than uplifted. Should you really have to ‘work’ at your relationship? A couple should feel energised when they are with each other, lifting each other up when they are feeling a little low and generally enjoying each other’s company. If the other person is making you life feel worse and is dragging you down leaving you thinking of an excuse not to be around them, then that is another sign you may be with the wrong person.
4. The Friend Test
Would you introduce your date to your friends? If this is the case ask yourself why this is. Friends, especially the most trusted ones know you the best and if they are concerned about your relationship listen to them. They may be able to see things more objectively than you, so listen to their concerns and be open to what they have to say. You never know, they may be able to help. Just remember your friends were there first.
5. You Can’t Picture Your Future Together
When you have been together a while it is completely normal to think about your future together and what it would be like. If you have been together a while and you look to the future and can’t see your relationship working, it would be a good time to think about what you seek in a relationship and is the person you are with the right one for your future. Think about the reasons you are with this person and will that person offer you the future you want. If you are unsure where the relationship is going and you feel a little stuck, you can always talk to your partner about it. You’ll never know till you talk to them.
6. You Are The Complete Opposite?
Your other half likes partying and sleeping in, you like relaxing at home and getting an early start. They want to be with you every night and you want time with friends and family. The main ingredient to maintain a happy and peaceful relationship is compatibility. If you find that you both have numerous differences it can make it much harder to make the relationship work. Think about whether either one of you are willing to compromise and adjust your schedules to combine your lives. Your lives should gradually sync together and your separate schedules should merge and become a joint schedule. If neither of you are willing to do this and you seem to pass like two ships in the night then it’s time to think about the reason you don’t want to compromise and consider you maybe with the wrong person.
7. They Don’t Excite You
Do you find yourself avoiding calls, not replying to text messages or avoiding them completely making excuses to get out of meeting them? If you are doing this or find that when you are with them you are in two minds where you want to be with them or not, take a step back and consider what you are getting from the relationship. Many people who are dating sometimes stick with a particular person as they are afraid of being alone and keep themselves in unfulfilling relationships due to that fear. Dating should be exciting and full of fun; it should not feel like a chore. All relationships are not without their ups and downs, but at the end of the day you should feel happy at the thought of seeing your partner.
8. You no longer feel happy about yourself
A good relationship should create confidence in yourself. When people are part of a good relationship, even if they have doubts and insecurities, the time they spend together with their partner will ultimately make them feel more positive about themselves. Your partner should make praise you and love you for everything you are and bring out the best in you. They should not make you feel worse. If your other half exacerbates doubts about yourself and reduces your confidence it may be time to fine someone else who brings out the best in you and puts a smile on your face.
9. The Disadvantages Outweigh The Advantages
If you have got this far into the relationship and are wondering whether it’s worthwhile try sitting down and taking some time to list the pros and cons of the relationship. When you have finished, compare the lists and you will see which one outweighs the other. This will give you an idea on whether the reasons to separate are more compelling than the reasons to remain together. Before deciding anything consider where the disadvantages can be resolved through discussion with your partner. If not them maybe you have picked the wrong person and it’s time to dip back into the dating pool.
10. Your Instincts Are Telling You To Abandon Ship
The subconscious thoughts we hear inside our head are there to be heard. If your subconscious is flashing red lights at you, pay attention. Let your heart and instincts rein free and it will most likely lead you to the conclusions that are right for you. Never ignore the smallest of hints your thoughts give you. If you feel unsure about something for any reason or have doubts about a situation listen to those feelings and act accordingly. This may save you a lot of time and maybe save a lot of heartache.
At the end of the day you need a person who treats you the way you want to be treated, who brings out the best in you, encourages you to believe in yourself and puts a smile on your face even if they aren’t there. They should make you feel happy and get along with the people who are closest to you and above all loves you for just being you.
