A successful first date can’t be guaranteed, but you can increase the odds by doing a little groundwork beforehand! One of the things to think about in the days leading up to your date is how you are going to flirt, chat and interact with your prospective partner. You want to keep things natural, but a few preparations can help to make sure you feel a little more confident in your approach.
Don’t Worry, Be Happy!
Going on a first date can be a stressful event. You may find yourself worrying about all the tings that could possibly go wrong. But if you show up to your date a trembling, sweaty mess you’re unlikely to make a great impression!
So, spend the hours before the date concentrating on happiness and positivity. Listen to upbeat songs, watch an episode or two of your favourite comedy, chat to a friend who always makes you laugh! Do everything you can to remain, upbeat and optimistic so you will have a genuine smile while you introduce yourself!
Make Sure You Ask Questions and Show an Interest in Your Date
When you are in full “peacock” mode it can be easy to get carried away with listing all your own attributes and forget that you’re supposed to be showing an internet in you date as well! So, take the time to work on establishing a real connection – eye contact, engaged listening and considered answers to questions will show you off a lot more than a never ending barrage of your best points and moments.
Make Sure to Look Your Date in the Eyes!
And speaking of eye contact – make sure to use plenty of it during your date! (But not too much, you don’t want your date to feel uncomfortable.) An ability to maintain a healthy level of eye contact will show interest, confidence and help you establish a connection.
You can practice in the week leading up to your date by maintaining three seconds continuous eye contact with colleagues, customers, and friends. So, by the night of your date you will be a lot more comfortable.
Make Sure to Pay Compliments
Show your genuine interest and bring a smile to your date’s face by lightly peppering your encounter with compliments. They don’t have to all be about appearance, if they mention any achievements, adventures, and tricky situations they’ve dealt with, make sure to give them sincere props and compliment their hard work and character strengths.
Suggest a Few Future Date Ideas
If things are going well and you’re certain that both of you are enjoying your time together – why not float a few ideas for future plans into the conversation? You don’t have to lock anything down but make a few suggestions for outings based upon your conversations.
This will help you to gauge whether they want to see you again and give you a definite idea to follow up on when trying to arrange date number 2!
